- Origin of the Macaroon
- According to legend, the macaroon was invented in an Italian monastery in 1792. Later, two Carmelite nuns, hiding in the town of Nancy during the French Revolution, baked and sold macaroons to cover their expenses. They became known as the “Macaroon Sisters.”
About Biscoche
Chi SiamoBiscoche is reinventing the coconut macaroon with better ingredients and innovative flavors. Our secret family recipe omits the flour, eggs, and almond extract found in other macaroons. The result is a macaroon so creamy and rich that each bite is moist, chewy, and uniquely satisfying. We take pride in using wholesome natural ingredients and baking in small batches. Each box is baked fresh to order in New York City, and finished for gifting with lavender grosgrain ribbon. For every box purchased, Biscoche partners with the World Food Programme to donate a school lunch to a child in need.

History
Biscoche launched in 2008 with a singular mission: To reinvent the coconut macaroon for the sophisticated sweet tooth. The macaroons had to be moist and chewy, satisfying and rich. They would come in a variety of interesting flavors, and would be prepared in small batches to ensure freshness. The macaroons we envisioned did not exist in the marketplace, and so we started from scratch. Recipe after recipe, we unleashed dozens of macaroons upon friends and family, co-workers and strangers. We collected lots of information from our happy taste testers -- everyone had a suggestion on what would make the perfect macaroon! With overwhelmingly positive feedback, we finally settled on six favorite flavors. Each flavor has its own distinct personality, so we gave them unique names to match.
Today, Biscoche macaroons are carefully handcrafted on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Each batch is made to order in accordance with our proprietary recipes.
Ingredients & Packaging
Better ingredients make better macaroons. That's why Biscoche carefully chooses the highest quality chocolate, fruit, and nuts. Biscoche uses Heavenly Organics brand condensed milk, which is imported from a region in India with a centuries old tradition of treating cows reverently and lovingly. The cows roam freely over fertile land untouched by fertilizers and pesticides. Calves graze alongside their mothers, and unlike most dairy herds throughout the world, all cows and calves are allowed to peacefully live out their lifespan. Studies show that milk from free-range, grass-fed cows is higher in Omega 3 fatty acids, making it more nutritious than regular milk. We think it tastes better, too.
Biscoche is continually taking steps to minimize its impact on the environment. Many of Biscoche's packaging and shipping supplies are made from recycled materials, and our brochures are printed with soy-based ink.
Our Commitment to The World Food Programme
Biscoche proudly supports the World Food Programme, the United Nations’ frontline agency in the fight against global hunger. For every box of macaroons purchased, Biscoche makes a donation to fill one of the “Red Cups” used to give hungry children a regular school meal of porridge, rice or beans.
“Fill the Cup” is an international campaign to raise funds for the estimated 59 million children in the developing world who go to school on an empty stomach. From Africa and Asia to Latin America, the free school meals are served in 70 developing countries, encouraging poor families to send their children to class and laying a foundation for a better future.
